Greetings and blessings,

We received your letter. You will find enclosed a receipt for your donation of $2 for Machne Israel. The donations to the yeshivah and to Colel Chabad were given to them. Certainly, you will be sent a receipt directly by [these organizations].

The membership card for the Society for the Study of Mishnayos has already been sent to your sons. Surely, it arrived at the appropriate time.

I would also suggest that you become involved in the other functions of Machne Israel and Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch.

It appears to me that it would be easy for you to be involved in two aspects of the above activities:

1. the dissemination of the kuntreisim and sichos which have been published among all those with whom you have influence, by explaining their great value in motivating teshuvah and the fear of heaven. In particular, this applies in the present era, the time of ikvesa diMeshicha. For now is the era when [we will proceed] "Immediately to teshuvah, immediately to Redemption," as explained in the letters of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita, printed in the second collection of his letters.[1]

2. to see that your sons also distribute the sichos as well as the Shmuessen[2] both in Yiddish and in English which are printed for Jewish children and whose content is intended to draw the children closer to Torah and Yiddishkeit.

The price of the kuntreisim, sichos, and the Shmuessen is minimal and anyone who is interested in them will certainly desire to purchase them. Everything is dependent on finding a person who will be willing - and knows how - to explain their content to those who are not yet aware of the light which is good.

You are certainly aware of the Alter Rebbe's teaching[3] on the verse:[4] "From G-d, man's steps are ordained." The Alter Rebbe explains: "A Jew comes to a place because of a [Divine] intent that he perform a mitzvah, whether a mitzvah between man and man, or a mitzvah between man and G-d. A Jew is G-d's agent. Wherever the agent is, the power of the Principal is also vested."

In one of his letters, my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita, writes:[5] We find that the primary reason why G-d cherished Avraham our Patriarch is, as it is written:[6] "For he will command [- i.e., connect[7] -] his children and his household...." Despite the greatness of his Divine service in [overcoming] the trials [he faced], [these efforts] are not at all comparable to the importance of commanding - i.e., connecting - others, enabling them to merit.
