This letter was addressed to Mr. Alexander Cohen, one of the active supporters of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch in its early years.B"H, 11 Adar II, 5708Greetings and blessings,
In honor of the festival of Purim, I am sending you wishes for a happy Purim in the name of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch and in my own name.
I am enclosing the maamar that my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, released for Purim as well as copies of my letters to our friends, Mr. Stulman and Mr. Lesser.
The Talmud states (Bava Basra 9a) that someone who motivates a colleague to give tzedakah is greater than the donor himself. No matter how great the reward earned by those who support [worthy causes] through their finances, the reward earned by those who bring them close and motivate them to perform these good deeds is greater.
Whenever we think of the great help which our friends offer to Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch because of your assistance and we feel gratitude to them, we feel even greater gratitude to you for being the motivator who brought them close to Yiddishkeit in general and the work of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch in particular.
I hope that you will continue your good work and try to influence our good friends to make even greater efforts to help carry out the program of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch which is in the process of expanding and must continually expand. Already, the very minimum needed by Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch for this year is far greater than the maximum that was needed a few years ago.
With heartfelt greetings and with wishes for a happy and joyous Purim for you and all [of the members of] your [household],
Rabbi Menachem SchneersonChairman of the Executive Committee
