No. 425

This letter was addressed to R. Shlomo Chayim Kesselman, one of the spiritual mentors of the Lubavitch community in Paris at that time.
B"H, The Festival of Redemption, 19 Kislev, 5709

Greetings and blessings,

You have no doubt duly received my letter from 22 MarCheshvan. Enclosed is the kuntreis [published for] Yud-Tes Kislev. [It is being sent to you] to share with people at large. We have received 15 tumarken[73] from R. Schneur Zalman Teibel for nifneh. [74]

See the conclusion of the enclosed maamar with regard to the great importance of motivating others to give tzedakah in general. With greetings to all those who seek our welfare, and with blessings for the Festival of Redemption,

Rabbi Menachem Schneerson

  2. (Back to text) [The term nifneh was a chassidic code to refer to maamad, money given to the Rebbe by chassidim to support his household needs and distribute to others at his discretion. Nifneh is made up of the letters that follow those of the word maamad; i.e., the nun follows the mem, the pei, the ayin....]
