The name of the recipient of this letter was not released.B"H, 2 Menachem Av, 5710Greetings and blessings,
In response to your letter of 6 Tammuz which was received after a slight delay:
...Certainly you have fixed times for the study of Nigleh and Chassidus and you also participate in communal study sessions. It's surprising that you mention nothing about such matters. Were you to write about such matters, the adage of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, hk"m, in the name of the Mitteler Rebbe[638] — "There are two G-dly souls against one animal soul" — would be appropriate. This is something that can be understood intellectually. Instead, however, you ignore these matters and ask specifically about those matters mentioned in [Tanya,] Iggeres HaKodesh, Epistle 22.[639] Is this a proper path?
With regard to your statements that you [feel you] are alone, etc. The Alter Rebbe explains[640] at length that the presence of a tzaddik is more cogently felt [even] in this world of deed [after his passing] than during his lifetime. To strengthen one's bonding, it is merely necessary to follow in the paths that he showed. And then, as a natural consequence, you will not feel alone and the bitterness of heart that you write about will be removed, for you will be a medium for the blessings which my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, hk"m, conveyed to you [and] which G-d will fulfill in a complete manner.
Signing with blessing,
Rabbi Menachem SchneersonNotes:
