B"H, 13 Menachem Av, 5710

Greetings and blessings,

In response to your letter of 11 Menachem Av where you state that a shidduch is suggested for your daughter... with R. .... In my opinion, the suggestion is appropriate.

With regard to what you write — that it is possible that G-d will send a young man who is a Torah scholar with exemplary character traits — there is a well-known adage of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, hk"m: "Our dross is better than their finest." How much more is it true that our finest is better than their finest of the finest.

May it be G-d's will that the bonding between "the grapes of the vine with the grapes of the vine"[692] be in a good and auspicious hour and serve as a broad medium to receive all forms of good.

Certainly, you have fixed times for the study of the teachings of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, hk"m, in addition to your other study sessions.

With blessing,

Menachem Schneerson
