The sixth of Tishrei is the
yahrzeit of the mother of the Rebbe
Shlita: "The saintly
Rebbitzin Chanah Schneerson - daughter of the saintly
Rebbitzin Rachel and of the eminent scholar and chassid, Rabbi Meir Shlomo; wife of the eminent scholar, chassid and Kabbalist, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak, who was imprisoned and exiled for his work in strengthening and disseminating
Yiddishkeit, and who died in exile on the 20th of Menachem Av, 5704 (1944) - who passed away towards the close of
Shabbos, on the sixth day of the Ten Days of Penitence, in the year 5725 (1964). May her soul be bound in the Bond of Life."
[532] Her resting place is in New York.
The Rebbe Shlita marks this date with a farbrengen, which he opens (if it falls on a weekday) with a siyum, publicly concluding his study of a Talmudic tractate.
The Rebbe Shlita has established a fund known as Keren Chanah,[533] and a number of institutions bearing the name Beis Chanah have been founded in the Holy Land and elsewhere.
